yes you heard it right, chocolate hummus
Whipped together in under 15 minutes, this dessert hummus is protein packed from the chickpeas. Can you believe it! Savoury hummus is one of my go to’s. Whether it’s on crackers as a snack or added to salads, you can’t go wrong with it. And it is so easy to make. So why not create a sweet hummus. A food processor is needed, but once you have one of these it is just a case of throwing everything in and pressing go.
I picked up my food processor from Argos for about £30 and can honestly say it has been sadly life changing. Especially for baking and creating sauces and dips! Anyway back to the chocolate hummus.
I’ve added some protein powder to add more protein and flavour but feel free to just use cacao powder if you don’t use protein powders. The maple syrup sweetens the chickpeas and the cacao powder gives the chocolate flavour. It takes a little while to adjust that you’re just eating sweet chickpeas! Add some cacao nibs or nuts on top, dip any type of fruit in or if you wanted to go all out, try some pretzels or biscuits. Alternatively, this hummus tastes amazing on toast.
takes approx. 15 minutes in total.
1 can of chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
4 tablespoons of maple syrup
4 tablespoons of cacao powder or substitute 2 tablespoons with protein powder (I used awesomesupps vegan)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1. Simply, add all of the ingredients apart from the water to the food processor and blitz.
2. If the mixture is too dry, slowly add a little bit of water and blitz until the desired consistency is reached. Serve and enjoy with anything you wish.
Store in fridge and consume within 3 days if you can make it last that long.
